Annnnnnnd last night someone drove their car into the river. No idea if the driver was still in the car when it went in...but...*shakes head*
In other news, noticed a lot of activity from local businesses (food and hairdressers) throwing support behind the police and other emergency services personnel after what happened and offering feed food/coffee/haircuts. _________________ Court Jester? Bo?

We seem to take turns here either supporting the police, or bashing them. The news here is often crazy and ridiculous. _________________ Rayven, I look at your avatar and think "Queen Sparklebutt!"-Tam

I know the majority of the population here support the police. And I know a lot of people b*tch and moan about revenue raising and all that stuff, but when stuff like this happens the community does rally around our police force. I see it every time something happens.
Yeah, sure, there are corrupt cops out there, but the actions of a few, shouldn't condemn everyone. _________________ Court Jester? Bo?

I agree. Although, I don't know what your police are like. A lot of ours have huge egos, and treat people poorly as soon as they pull people over even if it was a minor infraction. Personally, I've met very few nice police officers. The highway patrol are usually a little nicer, but that may be because they don't have to deal with as much drama as small town cops do. _________________ Rayven, I look at your avatar and think "Queen Sparklebutt!"-Tam

I think the majority of the cops over here are good people. Sometimes though, enough is enough with the blameless abuse they get. They can take most things with good humour, but then again, you get the incidents where the police are attacked for no good reason. _________________ Court Jester? Bo?

No, they should never be attacked for no reason. Nobody should be. _________________ Rayven, I look at your avatar and think "Queen Sparklebutt!"-Tam

Sooooooooo....right now I am safe. However, pretty much the East coast of Australia is on fire. We've been cycling through the fire ratings of high/very high, severe, extreme and catastrophic fire danger. Today we have yet another statewide fire ban due to the fire warning rating sitting at severe for today.
This time tomorrow (currently 12.30am on Sunday morning) I, along with my parents, should be settled in and hopefully sleeping at my uncle's place. Which has more fires around it (or at least a higher amount of bush/farmland/properties burnt out and destroyed), so I am totally looking forward to the possibility of heavy smoke in the area while we are there.
I wasn't planning on taking my laptop with me, but I probably will, just in case I feel the need to "study". _________________ Court Jester? Bo?

I hear those fires are wreaking havoc with the wildlife, especially the koalas. . .they have reported here that one of their major habitats is all but destroyed and almost 1,000 koalas lost their lives. . .that is beyond terrible, they are one of the most beautiful creatures on Earth.
I had just watched an episode of "Crikey, It's the Irwins" where a rehabilitator was able to help a baby (very young joey) survive (with the help of the Irwin's Zoo)after it's mother died. . .the baby kind of looked like a baby Yoda (without the ears).
I hope the koala population can survive such devastation. Fires are an indiscriminate destroyer. . . _________________

That is so sad about the koalas. I saw a segment on the news where a woman saved one that was on fire by taking her shirt off and wrapping the koala up in it. _________________ Rayven, I look at your avatar and think "Queen Sparklebutt!"-Tam

I saw that too, and unfortunately, they recently reported that despite her efforts and the efforts of the Vet team, the koala died from its injuries.

*sighs* yes, that broke my heart after seeing the people do all they could for him. . .they are no reporting that koalas are "functionally" extinct. . .thye do not have enough left to insure the continuation of the species, genetically. . .but then they say there are still about 15,000 of them. . .so I am not quite I understand how that is too small to be viable? They did say the fire is destroying much of the eucalyptus trees and that they are a very slow growing tree and the only real source of food the koalas have.
No matter what is the reason, this fire has been devastating. _________________

I'm guessing it's because of inbreeding. However, if they have enough food for them, they may have no choice but to allow some inbreeding. They wouldn't have any control over wild koalas, however many may be left, inbreeding anyway.
I just hope there is at least a little hope for them, but, even if there is, they have a long road to recovery ahead of them. _________________ Rayven, I look at your avatar and think "Queen Sparklebutt!"-Tam
