I have a feeling that there is going to be a distribution of answers for this poll.
Please give any explanation you wish to the way you have answered the poll, particularly if you choose "Other".
Meaning of the Poll options:
Theme-based avatar contests
Example: Seasonal avatar contests
Item-based avatar contests
Example: Use an item and create the avi around that.
Free creation avatar contests
Example: Do whatever you want contest
Challenge-based avatar contests
Example: Nothing from the same set contest

My answer could fall under challenge, or other equally.
I haven't had time to do one myself (I wish I did,) but I'd love restriction challenged avatar contests.
For example:
-Create an outfit using the maximum of: 3 DIs, and 3 EIs per outfit.
-Use the newest commons with at least one worn, in an all out common only challenge
-Use a difficult item that is hardly won and challenge users to make it work
*edit* Ehhh, I guess that's still under the challenge categories, huh?  I think if you change it up, people always love to create new avatars and have always seemed to enjoy these kinds of contests. I really love any kind of avatar creation, so I'd love any that you've listed

I think all those are challenge-based contests. I love your ideas too. Obviously I am going to host an avatar contest so I am finding out what people like first.

I'm with inspire  i also wouldn't mind seeing a contest with only items that are in the invintory that one owns

Yes but some people don't have many items and cannot compete on equal footing with others. However, I do understand wanting that limitation. Perhaps a zg limit though might do.

I enjoy contest based around an item, normally a hard t use item like the severance, or oddly colored items

Along with lnspire's idea...'Pick a common from page 128 (or weapon/hand-held from page 5) and any new common from this month.'

A ZG limit one would be interesting to see users create, although I imagine it not being too fun to add each user's total value.
A themed challenge would be fun too, perhaps? (since it seems to be the most desired)
Like:
Theme - Sea Creature
Restrictions - No Mermaid Set, Seashell items, Poseidon, Bubbles nor Beach backgrounds.
Although, you can mix and match just about any of them [except FFA] XP
