Today I went to go see the hobbit, horrible theater, great movie....though someone said it was a stupid waste of time as soon as it was over and I"m like what is wrong with you?

Don't get me wrong I can understand not liking it but stupid is not a word I would use. It was well exicuted for what they had in mind. Yes the Hobbit is a short book that doesn't need 3 movies. However taking into account that isn't the only book they are using. They are setting up for the LOTR or at least explaining how LOTR came about. They are using information from the Silmarillion.

Questions:
Do you feel it works as a prequal?

For those of you who have seen Martin Freeman in Sherlock BBC do you feel the two roles bleed together because of being filmed at the same time? (Started in another thread. The posts have not been pulled over.)

Do you feel the relationship between Bilbo and Thorin changed too quickly?

WHAT?! They obviously didn't watch the same movie everyone did...
It had its weak points, but it wasn't, by far, a stupid waste of time.

Hey Holly. :3

I loved your entry for the colouring contest and kudos for your first attempt at digital painting. I think you did a great job. :3

I didn't see the Hobbit yet, but I did see some tidbits from the trailers. It looks like an amazing film to me. But I also saw some bad reviews and didn't know what to make of them.

Hey there, Lillie!

Oh gosh, thank you very much! I'm glad you like it. Yes
I had a lot of fun with it, I hope to practice digital coloring more.

My sister kept telling me she wasn't going to see it because of the bad reviews, but I did anyway, and I loved it. People are always going to complain and knit-pick, but I'd recommend it regardless. Heart

You're welcome. :3

I already think this contest is going to be super hard to judge. All colouring contests are. XD

I think you should practice. I would too, but the graphic tablet market is very limited and expensive here in my country.

I think it's the same story as with the Prometheus. I think I read a great review somewhere that if it was the perfect blend of Peter Jackson sensibility and Tolkien imagination. I think people were just expecting a more LOTR type story, even though the Hobbit was written with children in mind. I'm really looking forward to watching it though. :3

-needs to go see the picture-

Ya it had its slow points. The story telling wasn't as smooth as the lotr's but that is to be expected because now they are needing to smoosh a lot of small points into a bigger plot rather then all the points already being worked into the story.

You don't feel as close to the characters but at the same time they are actually giving a little more umph behind characters that didn't, and couldn't, get as much attention in the other movies. Like Galadriel wasn't even named in the first movie even though she had such a lovely part.

The locations where just as powerful as the first movie and cgi was lovely.

I also really like that Dwarves, who really, really didn't get represented in the lotr are now getting a chance to tell a story. Not to mention culture is finally getting to be a big part of it.

I can imagine, there's a lot of awesome entries. I never really checked out any of the past contests because I didn't even considered trying, but I'm sure there's been some masterpieces that would make judging difficult. XD

I don't have a tablet, either. I just used my mouse. >.<

I never watched or read reviews for Prometheus, but I remember watching trailers in the theater and wanting to watch it.
That review sounds spot on to me! You'll have to tell me what you think of it when you watch it. The biggest criticism I have is how they developed Bilbo and Thorin's relationship. That's all I'm saying! XD

I think the comment that annoyed me most was about Jackson making three movies out of such a tiny book, whereas LOTR are three substantial books and were also made into three movies.

But as far as I can see, Jackson introduced some lore regarding the dwarves and the elves, and that was sure not easy to do. In any case, I think after the Harry Potter movies, there is a market for great and epic movies that can also be watched by kids.

I absolutely love how the Dwarves were done. So much personality! Heart

That's a good point to pay attention to Holy. Thanks for pointing it out. :3

Holy what exactly is your criticism.

Rose: You have to remember the Silmarillion is also being used in the movies.

Moon: It is? That's awesome! Heart

The bf and I watched the LOTR again last week in preparation for the Hobbit and I had to keep explaining to him some bits from the Silmarillion about the Maiar and the Valar and the Tom Bombadil part from the book that was left out from the movie. I wish he'd just read all the books and the Silmarillion, but he doesn't really have the time.

I was upset at first just because I wanted to watch everything, but that's not possible for a three hour movie. XD At least, not one that's as good as it was!

And yes, they did, I enjoyed it. :3 I loved seeing Dale before it was destroyed by Smaug.

@Moon; I don't want to say anything to ruin it for Lillie. XD
It's not big or anything, though.

The previous posts were split from another topic. Because we enjoy discussing the movie Hobbit (and the book as well), we three decided to make this topic.

Feel free to discuss the Hobbit movie and book.

Try to avoid spoilers, in case some people join who didn't see the movie yet. Or read the book. XD

Silly Holy. XD

I actually haven't decided on a favourite dwarf. Right now, without seeing the movie, I'm partial to Thorin, since he reminds me of one of my crushes. XD

There's so many ups and downs with Thorin, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. ;u; But regardless, that's cool. I didn't like Thorin until after he... you know. Split. Ninja
