Rakurai and Senshi.

[Rakurai]

As I wake up, my eyes blur as i try stumbling for my belt knife on the ground. Pawing in the dirt, i acclimate to the light, quickly finding my bow, my quiver, and my pack, but not my knife.

'Odd.' I think to myself. " I always have my knife on me."

I knock an arrow, and begin scanning the area> I find a familiar face nearby.

Senshi is still out, tucked under one of the first few trees at the foot of what seems to be a huge forested mountain. Before that, and going on for what seems like forever are miles of grass covered hills, and mountains,.. and smoke rising in the distance.

I gave her a once over, gather her things, and set my pack with hers, tucking her bedroll under her head. In a few minutes, i have a fire going, and the start of a shelter. The sun has begun to wane in the sky, as i feel the pangs of hunger creep up on me.

" No way im leaving her here alone to hunt."

He reaches for his pack. He cant remember packing them, and that begins to bother him. He empties it completely, and inventories the goods.

50 feet of rope
a blanket and bedroll
tent
a lantern, and fuel
flint and steel
a hatchet
small cookware
trail rations
seasonings for various meats and stews
water skins, full
his bow, and 50 arrows as well as a small maintenance kit for his weapon.

so yes. There was a bit of food. Trail Rations arent much more than granola, and whatnot, but it was good in a pinch.

as soon as Senshi woke up, he could hunt. And figure out just what she did to get them here.

Slowly i awaken. i hear the crackling of the fire and someone breathing close by.
Feeling my way around i sit up and feel around for my bed and bow. "Bloody hell where is my bed!" I get a scent from the person breathing. "Rakurai why have you taken me from my home. what is going on here. i do not like pranks such as this. wvruelty is not funny. Feeling around the ground i finally find my bow and it helps me to stand. "Did you at least pack me a bag with some food and drink?"

" Hold on. This wasnt my doing. I woke up here just like you. I have no idea how we got here, but our travelling bags are with us. Now that your awake, im going to see about some dinner before it gets TOO dark."

with bow and arrow at the ready, I wander into the edge of the woods. Quietly, i perch between two small trees, waiting for movement. it doesnt take long for me to spot a squirrel, and a rabbit in the distance.

the rabbit drops easily, i scoop him up, and tie him to my belt. The squirrel, however,.

a rabbit this size will make a fine meal,.. at least thats what i tell myself in my head. its true for the most part, but it would have been nice to get a days worth of food to save time later.

for now a nice stwe will warm our bodies and help us fall asleep in this strange new place.

I listen to Rakurai walk away "well i guess ill just tend to the fire or something..."

i get up and start wandering around trying to gather wood for the fire. "this is a little more complicated than at home. I wonder how we got out here, and why we were put out here...i want my stew i know i had some cooking...what happened.." i stomp my foot impatiently.

Bringing the wood back to my sleeping area i stack it neatly and fish about in my bag.

"hmm no hair or tooth brush..great now i get to smell my own breath and have knots in my hair...where is my knife i could just chop my hair off..." i begin searching in my bag for it. "Well just lovely no knife..who leaves the house without a knife?" I place my bag back and start straightening out the area only burning my clothing by getting close to the fire a couple times.

Walking back to the camping area, I can smell the fire even before I see it.

"Good, she kept the flames up. That will keep out predators, and keep us warm at the same time."

Stepping closer, I finally see the yellow of the campfire, as the suns light waxes in the late evening sky. Just enough light left to get the kettle set, and make a nice stew before bed.

The smell of singed clothing fills the air.

'Mouy, did you set yourself on fire or something?'

I begin cooking the rabbit. Not as much meat as Id like, but it will fill us for the day ahead.

"Of course...but only a few times and only a little." I wander about feeling the ground with my feet for wood. "how much fire wood do you want me to get, im gunna sleep up in the tree" i say pointing towards a large willow about 30 feet away from our current camp. "Smells like you got a rabbit. Decent catch...no squirrel? Squirrel can be good if they've eaten alot..." suddenly i realize where my knife is at. 'AhHA!" i pull open my jacket and pull the knife out of the bottom hem.."Its small...very small but itll work!" i begin cutting my hair off and setting in in a pile on a piece of cloth. when i finish i fold it up and put it in my bag. "So now about that wood?" I have a goofy grin on my face which makes me look a bit crazier with my newly hacked off haircut.

I shake my head at Mouys new hairdo.

"one more armful of big branches should do,.. theres a downed limb ill drag over, and well be all set. Are you going to use your bedroll as a hammock up in the tree, or tie yourself to a branch? Either way, Ill sleep next to the fire,.. its warmer, and nights are getting cold."

With a bowl of stew in my stomach, and my bedroll out, I tuck into my blankets, as I watch Senshi head for the tree.

" Well begin looking into what all this nonsense is in the morning."

"Well ill be in my bed roll tied to the tree" After i finished gathering the wood i head for the tree and settle in for the night ahead. "hmm looks like a storm is coming..." I tie my self securely to the tree and fall asleep.

as the night continues on the skies get filled with clouds. it begins to thunder and lightening begins to crash all around and i wake up startled. "bloody frakin...."i keep mumbling to myself as i make sure i am still secure and reach for a couple branches above me and use them to protect me a bit from the rain that is surely to come. " i thought i smelled a storm brewing." I glance toward Rakurai camp I hope he adds wood to that fire soon or else it will go out." i listen for the thunder to crash again to see how far off the storm is.

I smile, as Senshi scurries into her 'nest' above me. Shes asleep fast, as I put the last leafy branches on the roof of my lean-to shelter.

Stepping back to admire, i smile.

" Its not much, but it should keep me covered."

I feel the temperature drop, and a sweep of wind as thunder rolls not to far off.

"and hopefully dry as well."

I toss a few extra logs onto the fire just to keep it burning hot overnight. I may need to get moe for breakfast cooking, but ill be warm all night,.. and if i aimed the fire pit right, the heat should rise up just under Senshi,.. so well both be warm.

Slipping into my blankets, i let the heavy creep of night pull over me, and i drift to sleep, my knife in my hand, tucked in its holder.

Hopefully I dont wake up somewhere else,..
