I think he's great. I imagine him more fierce and less cute but I like it hehe
Loving the chest hair like it's a part of his mane 
I dunno...maybe make the grass sticking out from the ground like this?

Now I get the feeling he's coming out of a dense forest or something and walking our way through the high grass.
There's just a lot more depth

Great, im glad you like it! 
Backgrounds arent my strong point hehe. I didnt put grass up by his head and stuff, so it wouldnt seem like he was two inches tall and hiding in the grass. I dunno, i thought it would look weird. xD

That is very true, I think it would have seemed that way. It depends on the type of grass of course but these would make him a little fella xD

I hope so. The parts that aren't brown are his eyes and his tummy. Those are silver and yellow/black.
No clue what kind of background you should make, but you can leave it blank if you want

Haha Mad scientist / alchemist moment maybe? I dunno. xD I had dificulties with the face.
I didnt know if you wanted the thorns on his shins and down his arms, i can put more if you want. I added some more already, what do you think about this- Click
Let me know if you want some more, i am going to take a pic tomorrow in the sunlight anyway , and its easy to add more thorns. ^^

Better, but could you make it a higher density with a lot of small thorns? Cecil has pretty much no skin showing on his shoulders, because they are covered with thorns owo
