I don't think I have ever told this story, but it came up today in conversation between me and my fiance E. That is not his real name, but it is actually what I call him. I must also point out for anyone that doesn't already know that E is from the Philippines. He is very good at speaking English, but sometimes he misses the finer nuances of conversation. We learned the hard way that having a one letter first name is probably not the best idea when you live in an apartment, and if you do you had better be prepared to explain. I hope anyone who reads this gets as big a kick out of it as we did. It is a true story. You can't make this stuff up. XD

(E coming home from work shortly after we moved in.)

E: Something awkward just happened with one of the neighbors.

Me: What happened?

E: He introduced himself to me. He said his name was Dan from apartment C. Then he asked me what my name was, and which apartment I lived in.

Me: What did you say?

E: I told him, "I'm E from F." Dan looked at me really funny. (Nervous laughter)

Me: Oh no! (slaps self on forehead) Since you're not from here I wonder if he thought you didn't know English very well, or worse, he thinks you're an alien like Mork from Ork. Did you explain to him that your name really is E, and that you're from apartment F?

E: No. I just said bye, and walked away.

Me: (shakes head in disbelief and then starts laughing hysterically)

As a side note, our neighbor Dan never asked about that encounter. Maybe he figured it out, or maybe he thought it was better not to ask. XD

Please feel free to comment, chat, or tell an awkward, funny story of your own. Very Happy

Lol, that is funny. Very Happy

One that comes to my mind, is when I was studying for the exam I had to take before I could apply to nursing school. It was called the Test of Essential Academic Skills, but everyone called it the TEAS test for short.

So I found a study guide that looked good, and I called my local bookstore to see if they had it. Not thinking, I asked if they had the TEAS Study Guide. The person on the phone thought I was being funny and making it up. I was so used to calling it the TEAS test, that it took me a minute to realize that that sounded a little awkward. Once I told him what it stood for and he looked it up, his response was, "oh, yes, we do have it." XD

XD That's funny. I'm sure the fact that it was over the phone didn't help. It's easier to get confused because you're not sure if you heard them right. I wonder if he was embarrassed. Lol

XD Poor guy. In his defense, I've never heard of that so maybe he hadn't either, at least not the abbreviation.

I told some other friends your story the other day, Rayven. They both agreed it was an awesome story.

I once forgot to salt my rice, thought about having to unscrew the lid of the salt shaker next time to add salt for the cooking, then lifted the shaker to salt my flat rice.

Only I'd unscrewed the lid because of what I'd been thinking.

Thanks Tam. Very Happy I'm glad they enjoyed it.

Oh no! XD I guess you couldn't eat the rice?

Awww. I'm sorry you had to eat it. You're very brave though. I probably would have thrown it away, and went on a hunger strike. XD

Aw, that sticks, Tam. Though, I'm with Rayven, I probably wound have thrown it away. Or, I would have tried to add things to the dish to try to cut the saltiness down.

I MIGHT have added stuff. I can't remember anymore. Though knowing me, my add ins would have all been salty things. And hunger strike... I'd probably already missed a couple meals, back then. Or else the blood sugar level was letting it be known that food must happen now. Something like that.

Riley that's a good idea. I add more milk when I accidentally put too much salt in my green bean casseroles. XD

Tam-Awww. I understand. I get hangry like they talk about on the Snickers commercials. XD

I'm sure that's not true. You probably just can't think of anything but food. XD

I get really bad when I haven't eaten. For whatever reason, my husband can go literally all day without eating and be fine. But I suddenly have an inability to handle anything if I've reached the 'I need to eat now' phase.
