I kept mine inside. That might have been part of the problem. We gave it bugs, but it just didn't do well. *shrugs*

XD My Dad was complaining about the heat but it's only going to be in the 90's. I reminded him that this time of year we are usually up around 100 or more. In other words, it could be much worse. Lol

Yeah, domestic flytraps generally don't eat bugs very much, and they're really only a specialist plant, because they need special humidity and soil and stuff.

Oh right, that makes sense with the fly strips. Yeah. I lived on cattle farms. There were a LOT of flies.

I understand. Yeah, I couldn't have met the fly trap's needs at the time. I probably still couldn't. XD

I bet. My Dad had cows at the family farm before Grandma died. Lots of flies and all other kinds of critters. I've never seen so many spiders in my life. If you looked on the ground they were crawling everywhere. *shivers* I couldn't tell you how many there were per square foot, but a lot. They were even crawling all over the gravel bars on the creeks. I'm surprised I could handle being there. XD

Yeah, I don't have the green thumb like my mom does. I'm still counting myself lucky that my orchid is still doing well, lol.

*_* That's a nope from me for the spiders. No

Riley you're doing a great job then. I've heard that orchids are terribly hard to take care of. Yes I'm not brave enough to attempt those yet. XD

Mine usually end up dying at some point. Then I get discouraged for awhile, and then I think I can do it, so I try again. XD

Actually, some kinds of orchids are no harder to take care of than African violets.

Spiders running around all over the ground. Awwww. I miss wolf spiders. Though the time I saw them that thick on the ground I was a bit creeped out. But those ones lived by a creepy oil well, and some of them were oversized or deformed, if I remember right.

Riley-That's the spirit! Never give up! Very Happy You have Birds of Paradise right? Those are so pretty. Are they hard to take care of? I'm not sure if I can grow them here because of our winters. I'll have to look them up.

Tam-I had some of those when I was a kid too. Yep. Killed them. Sad I think I could do better now though.

They just get really big. I saw one of those out at the farm too. It had hundreds of its babies on its back. Shocked I walked waaaayyy around it. XD

I think my problem was over watering them. This one is doing much better now that I actually forget to water it.
This is my first time having Birds of Paradise. So far they're pretty easy to care for. I need to get out there and clip them back though. I think my mom said they can be invasive if given the chance.

I believe I heard that orchids are mostly supposed to be misted. I could be thinking of another plant though.

Ahhh. I can imagine. I'm sure they come from a tropical climate and they probably take over the jungle. XD What a pretty jungle it would be though. Very Happy

Orchids have a really big range of different needs, Rayven. The crazy things are all over the map when it comes to needs.

If I ever decide to get one I will have to research the one I get then. Sometimes I still have trouble even after I do research though. XD

I dug a new flower bed. Very Happy I have to add some good dirt to the top, and Dad has to get the boards for the border. I'm going to plant my strawberry plants and shamrocks in there. My Mom wants to plant something there too, but I told her that the strawberries and shamrocks will probably take over. XD I'll try to squeeze something of hers in there. She doesn't have any perennials that need planting right now anyway.

*goes to feed and click the pets*

Domestic pets are more satisfying than tropical anyway, in my opinion. In plants as well as beasties. lol

Riley, have you ever thought of decorative banana plants? There are some neat ones out there. Including one that makes bananas with fuzzy skins.

Oh I love my domestic animals/pets, but I tend to like anything unique. Tropical is definitely unique here. XD

Yes. But I was thinking of all the invasive messes we have all over the world now. Including with dogs and cats.
