zd011. Buying and Selling

There are a few different ways that you can buy and sell items.

    zd011a. Shops of Edingtol

Clicking on the Town link will take you to the Edingtol City map, where several stores can be found. Go to Market Square to buy clothes and other equippable items. This can also be accessed from Town -> Zantarni Shops on the tool bar.

Market Square offers you the choice of the following shops:

Next to each item in the Edingtol Tailor, Armory and Weapons shops are three icons.
  • (add to basket) - When clicked on, this icon will cause a pop-up screen to appear. The screen enables you to preview the item on your avatar before buying.
Note: The preview option is currently not working.
  • (male) - This indicates that the item can only be worn by males.
  • (female) - This indicates that the item can only be worn by females.
  • (female and male) - This indicates that the item can be worn by either gender.
  • (equip slot) - This, as well as similar icons, indicates which slot the item will equip to. This particular icon indicates that the item equips as a top.

In the Edingtol Tailor, Armory and Weapons shops, you will also find links to the other Shops of Edingtol.

    zd011b. Citizens' Marketplace

This is where users sell clothing and other items to each other.

To search the Citizens' Marketplace for an item, go here. There is currently no option to search by user, to see what items a particular person is selling.

You can search by the following options:

To preview clothing or other equippable items on your avatar before buying, hover your mouse over the image of the item and a Menu bar will appear beneath it.
Click on the Menu, then on "Try On"; a pop-up screen will preview the item on your avatar.
Note: The preview option is currently not working.

Selling items from your profile inventory or wardrobe is easy to set up:
    To add an item from your profile inventory to the Citizens' Marketplace, click on the "Sell Me" link alongside the item you wish to sell;
    To add an item from your wardrobe to the Citizens' Marketplace, click on the gold coin beside it;
In the new pop-up box which appears, click on the "Market" tab, enter your selling price and how many of the item you wish to sell, then click on "Add to Market".

If you wish to check what items you have placed on the Citizens' Marketplace for sale, click on My Items at the top right of the screen.

To advertise what you are selling, or to see what other people are selling, you can visit the Market Exchange.

    zd011c. Auction House

Users can also sell clothing and other items to each other in the Auction House.

    To add an item from your wardrobe to the Auction House, click on the gold coin beside it, then click on the "Auction House" tab in the pop-up box;
Enter your Minimum Bid price and how long you wish the auction to last, then click on "Add to Auction".

There is a fee of 1000 ZG when you add an item to the auction.
The auction lasts for 3 days maximum for each item; at the end of the auction, the item is automatically given to the winner, or returned to the seller, if there were no winning bids.

When you place a bid, your gold is automatically deposited in the Auction House and if someone outbids you, it will be returned to you.
If you place a bid in the last 3 minutes of an auction, the time remaining will be extended by a further 3 minutes, to allow for new bids.

    zd011d. Trader

You can sell back your clothing and other equippable items, including some rare items, to the Trader.

    To sell back an item from your wardrobe to the Trader, click on the gold coin beside it, then click on the "Trader" tab in the pop-up box;
If you accept Herbert the Trader's offer for your item, click on "Sell".

The Trader currently offers a 30% sellback on shop items (commons). He also buys some rare (donation or event) items, but please note that he may not offer as much as you might expect to sell these for through the Citizens' Marketplace, Auction House, or Market Exchange.

    zd011e. Market Exchange

The Market Exchange is the place to buy, sell and advertise items, and to do everything else with regard to buying and selling Zantarni items from and to other users.

If you want to buy something, but do not have the funds, you can try making a quest in the Places of Dreams (Quests) subforum.

When selling or buying, label the thread clearly with what you are trying to do and what you are trying to get. You can abbreviate buying as "B" and selling as "S".
For example, "[B] Blue Sharlou [S] Angel Scythe".

You should also restate your purpose clearly in your opening post. If you are selling, say what you are looking for in return for your item, whether it is gold, certain items, or a mix of both. If you are buying, state what you are offering, whether it is gold, certain items, or both.

The trade can either be completed through the Citizens' Marketplace, or, if you do not wish to risk someone else getting the items, by donating the items and gold.

Once you are done, you should change the thread title to say it is closed. A Knight will then lock it for you.

zd012. Guilds, Quests and Journals

    zd012a. Guilds

Notice! Guilds are not currently available.

If Guilds become available in future, this section will be updated.

    zd012b. Quests

Quests may be released from time to time, either during special events, or separately.

Quests, when available, can be accessed by clicking on the scroll icon which will appear in a designated location.
Successful completion of a quest will earn the user an item, or set of items, depending on the particular quest.

Quests will be announced when available.
For a list of items, see subsection 10d.

    zd012c. Journals

Notice! Neither journals nor blogs are currently available.

The journals used to be fully integrated into Zantarni's layout. Creating a journal cost 1,500 ZG.
The existing journals are currently not accessible.

In May 2007, xtremetom introduced new WordPress blogs to use, as an alternative to the journals. While these blogs were not easy to navigate, you could log in with your Zantarni username and password (as it was hosted on Zantarni) and write entries, or comment on others’ entries. There was no integrated site link to the blogs, and they were rarely used, therefore no guide to using them was made.

If journals or blogs become available in future, this section will be updated.

zd013. Training, Battling, Jobs and More

    zd013a. Character Attributes and Stats

The following basic attributes and stats, as well as the chosen Class (Archer, Warrior or Wizard) are determined after a user logs in for the first time. Some attributes and stats can be changed by training.

You can see your attributes and stats beneath your avatar on the right. See subsection 3a.

    Attributes
  • HP - This is the user's remaining life or health points.
  • MP - This is the user's remaining magic power or magic points.
    Note: currently not in use.
  • NRG - This is the user's remaining energy.
For more information on energy, see section 9.
  • Courage - This is the user's remaining courage.
Note: Courage cannot be trained. It regenerates gradually over time. You can also gain courage points through wins in battle.
  • EXP - This is the user's experience points.

    Stats
  • Level - This is the user's level.
  • Strength - This is the user's strength.
  • Speed - This is the user's speed.
  • Dexterity - This is the user's dexterity.
  • IQ - This is the user's intelligence.
Note: there is currently no way to train IQ.
  • Defense - This is the user's defense.
  • Karma - This is the user's karma points.
Note: Karma determines whether you are “good” or “evil”.
    Positive karma is earned by performing good deeds and donating to other users (see subsection 4b);
negative karma is earned by committing crimes.

Karma, whether positive or negative, does not currently affect any site features.
More information will follow, as it becomes available.

    zd013b. Training Gym

To get to the Training Gym, you need to go to the Town.

The training gym is the only way to raise character stats.

At the moment, there are four options:
    • Strength Training / Weight Training - This will raise your strength stat.
    • Speed and Endurance Training / Speed Training - This will raise your speed stat.
    • Train Dexterity and Aim / Dexterity Training - This will raise your dexterity stat.
    • Defense Training - This will raise your defense stat.

Training is currently done by paying for the training session with a Gym Ticket and then waiting the required time for the training to end. The time taken to train can vary, depending on your energy level at the start of the training. It takes the least time to train on full energy – normally, only a few minutes.
Note: if you start a training session when your energy is very low, it may take hours to complete.

Each session of training will raise one stat by a number of points, which are related to your level. The number of points gained increases proportionately, as you level up.
At each level, you can train up to a set maximum of points in each stat, then you cannot train any more, until you achieve the next level.
Currently, training is capped at Level 26, because your experience caps at 99,999.99.
More information on these aspects will be added, as it becomes available.

Training at all levels of stats currently costs one ticket.
You can only do one session of training at a time.
For more information on tickets, see subsection 6d.
    zd013c. The Coliseum

To get to the Coliseum, you need to go to the Town.

You need HP, courage and energy to battle.
HP, courage and energy will regenerate over time.
You can also gain energy by eating food. Courage may also be gained from a win in battle.

Once in the Coliseum, choose the monster you wish to fight, according to your level.
Wins in battle normally earn gold (ZG), courage and experience points. Monsters may also drop certain items after they are defeated.

You can fight a range of monsters, up to Level 17.
Note: there are no monsters yet available for Levels 11 to 14.

Monsters are listed by level, in increasing order of stats. Each monster's Strength, Speed, Defense and Energy is also shown.
  • Level 1: Hermit Crab, Crossbones, Green Blob, Disgruntled Goat
  • Level 2: White Rabbit, Rabid Rarebit
  • Level 3: Purple Blob, Pink Sharlou
  • Level 4: Cracked Bone Dragon, Bone Monkey
  • Level 5: Little Bunny Foo Foo, Blue Kraqu, Red Blob
  • Level 6: Creepy Spider, Sharlou Attack Squad
  • Level 7: Ferocious Ferret, Black Cat, The Book of Songs, Angry Rubble
  • Level 8: Fluffy the Floating Shark, Octofighters
  • Level 9: Ghastly Sword, Frozen Snowball, The Mysterious Fisherman
  • Level 10: Hungry Turnips, Mine This!
  • Level 15: xtremeT
  • Level 16: Ba Baa Black Sheep
  • Level 17: Glendor Invasion, Gargoyle

To battle a monster, click on "Attack". The next screen will show the monster on the left and your avatar on the right. In between the two characters, any weapon you have equipped for battle will be shown, along with its name, Durability %, Attack, Defense and Weight. If you have no weapon equipped, you will be told that you are fighting with bare fists. Beneath each character is listed their respective Tiredness %, Level, and their stats for Strength, Speed, Defense, Attack and Dodge.

Click on “Attack” again, to fight. Hits, Damage (loss of HP) and loss of durability in your weapon will be displayed. You have three options to continue the battle: Attack, Dodge or Block. This will continue until one character wins. Both characters’ stats will change, during the course of the battle.

  • Equipping items for battle
Note: equipping weapons for battle is not working at the moment. The only items you can use in battle currently are tools that you've made at the Weapon Smith.

The only items you can normally use in battle are tools and Toy or Training weapons that you've made at the Weapon Smith (see subsection 8e). Other weapons, bought from the shops or as Donation Items, are only for show on your avatar.
In the tools and weapons sections in your wardrobe, you will see a red [+ Battle +] link beneath each tool or weapon that can be equipped for battle. It is said that more items may be added as the system is developed.
To be effective in battle, tools and weapons must be equipped in the wardrobe, by clicking on the [+ Battle +] link.
You do not need to wear a tool or weapon on your avatar at the same time, although you may wear one, if you wish.
Durability is lost by tools or weapons used in battle.

Note: The following options may, or may not, be progressed as the new battle system is developed:

The items you can equip for battle may eventually all be coded with values for Attack, Defense, Weight and Durability. It has been said that a "paper doll" avatar may be developed for use in the battle system, so that you can choose which items you will equip for battle, and you will always be prompted, so that you don't equip an item that you really don't want to be affected by the wear and tear of battle.

There may also, in the future, be an option to repair items which have been affected by durability. The only items currently affected by durability are the tools and weapons which can be used in battle. It has also been said that, in the future, pets may be able to accompany you in battle; there may be a vet available to heal them, when they are injured in battle. It has been said that Donation Items will never wear out.
    zd013d. Good Samaritan

To perform good deeds, you need to go to the Town.

You need HP, courage and energy, to perform good deeds.
HP, courage and energy will regenerate over time.
You can also gain energy by eating food. Courage may also be gained from a win in battle.

Successfully performing a good deed earns gold (ZG), karma and experience points.
During the Valentine’s Day event, 2008, users who successfully performed a number of good deeds were rewarded with clothing and weapons.

The list of good deeds and the amount of courage and energy needed for each one:
  • Help a Granny (1 courage, 2 NRG)
  • Give Kids Candy (3 courage, 4 NRG)
  • Help a charity (6 courage, 11 NRG)
  • Buy a round of drinks (8 courage, 15 NRG)
  • Babysit Trolls (12 courage, 25 NRG)
  • Catch a Thief (18 courage, 52 NRG)
    zd013e. Commit Crimes

To commit crimes, you need to go to the Town.

You need HP, courage and energy, to commit crimes.
HP, courage and energy will regenerate over time.
You can also gain energy by eating food. Courage may also be gained from a win in battle.

Successfully committing a crime earns gold (ZG), negative karma and experience points.
During the Valentine’s Day event, 2008, users who successfully committed a number of crimes were rewarded with clothing and weapons.

The list of crimes and the amount of courage and energy needed for each one:
  • Push over a granny (1 courage, 2 NRG)
  • Punch a drunk (3 courage, 4 NRG)
  • Grab and Snatch (6 courage, 11 NRG)
  • Steal Grog From Tavern (8 courage, 15 NRG)
  • Kick a Troll (12 courage, 25 NRG)
  • Fight a Fairy (18 courage, 52 NRG)
      zd013f. Job Center

To find a job, you need to go to the Town.

There are currently only a few types of job available, but it has been said that more highly skilled jobs may be available in the future.
Each job requires a certain level of stats before you can be employed. Some jobs need a set level of Strength and Dexterity, and some also require Speed.
It is said that the higher level jobs in the future may require higher level stats, as well as work experience.

You can choose to work in a job for a set period of time, from 1 hour up to 12 hours.
Successfully completing a job earns gold (ZG) and Work Experience points.
Note: there is currently no visible counter for Work Experience points.

The list of jobs, the stats needed for each one, and the earnings gained:
    • Street Sweeper (5 Strength, 13 Dexterity)
Gives per hour: 10 ZG, 2.50 Work Experience

    zd014. BBCode

You can use BBCode (Bulletin Board Code) when you post on Zantarni. You can also use it in your signature.

      zd014a. Codes

      Here are some example BBCodes.

      Code:
      [b]text[/b]
      Result: text

      Code:
      [i]text[/i]
      Result: text

      Code:
      [u]text[/u]
      Result: text

      Code:
      [quote]text[/quote]
      Result:
      Quote:
      text

      Code:
      [quote="Name"]text[/quote]
      Result:
      Name wrote:
      text

      Code:
      [img]http://www.zantarni.com/templates/icons/coin.gif[/img]
      Result:

Note: If the file does not end with an image file type (.gif, .jpg, .png, and so on), then the image will not display properly.
If you use a URL shortener (TinyURL.com, Metamark, etc.) on an image, then you cannot shorten the filename.
Using the example above after shortening the URL:
      Code:
      [img]http://xrl.us/37yz//coin.gif[/img]
      Result:

      Code:
      [url=http://www.zantarni.com/][img]http://www.zantarni.com/templates/icons/coin.gif[/img][/url]
      Result: Clickable link.

      Code:
      [url=http://www.zantarni.com/]text[/url]
      Result: text Clickable link.

      Code:
      [color=red]text[/color]
      Result: text
For more on text colors, see the next section.

      Code:
      [size=9]size 9 text[/size]
      Result: size 9 text
You can use any text size from size 0 to size 29 with Zantarni's BBCode.

There is also a "list" BBCode.

Using a "*" in square brackets with a regular list creates a bullet point (black dot) on the left side:
    Code:
    [list][*] Apples
    [*] Oranges
    [*] Pears[/list]
    Result:
    • Apples
    • Oranges
    • Pears

If you alter the code to be "list=1", a "*" in brackets will cause the list to be numbered:
    Code:
    [list=1][*] Apples
    [*] Oranges
    [*] Pears[/list]
    Result:
    1. Apples
    2. Oranges
    3. Pears

If your code is "list=a", a "*" in brackets will cause the list to have lowercase letters to the left:
    Code:
    [list=a][*] Apples
    [*] Oranges
    [*] Pears[/list]
    Result:
    1. Apples
    2. Oranges
    3. Pears

      zd014b. Colors

There are numerous colors that can be used with BBCode color code. The known names are listed below. If you cannot see the name beside the bullet point, try highlighting the text.

Also, you can use any color for which you know the hexadecimal color code. For example:
      Code:
      [color=#73AAFF]text[/color]
      Result: text

    zd015. Staff Members

There are several types of staff member here on Zantarni. Here is a list of all of them.
