You don't downsize a school but you can sure have high turn over.

Well not exactly, but they can eliminate certain positions which is essentially downsizing. I've yet to see anywhere that doesn't have high turnover. It may seem odd for a school, but I remember teachers coming and going at my school all the time too. I hated to see good teachers go.

I don't know if this is universal to all states but if a position is eliminated they have to give the teacher the option of filling another position. They can't be fired for that reason.

I don't know off the top of my head. That would be good for the teachers, but it would make it difficult for the school if they had no other position to offer them. I would imagine a big school would have an easier time of it than a small school. As small as my school was there would have been nowhere to put them unless another teacher was voluntarily leaving.

Edit: I got curious so I did a little research. XD Apparently in my state they can't be terminated due to an elimination of their position once they qualify to be a permanent teacher. To be considered a permanent teacher you must have held the same position for at least 5 years. So before that they could be terminated, but after 5 years they can only be placed on an indefinite leave.

Wow. Just reading about all that makes me confused. *sends you virtual cookies, even though I know sometimes the thought doesn't really count enough to help a situation feel better*

I wish I could help myself more. At least there are two good things. I have more experience and my lease is up before next school year.

Those two things will help some. I'm sure you'll find something else, and it will be even better. Very Happy

You're very brave Moon. I think high school kids would scare me more than little ones. XD I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get the position you want.

I've taught almost every grade and middle school is the worst for potential destruction. Ok, yes high school kids can really flip and hurt you but middle school kids could do that with without thinking at any moment. I love them but no.

Do you think the older kids know that they can get in worse trouble for that kind of thing?

To some extent yes but also no. It is a mix of things. 1) kids in high school can drop out 2) they have less attitude (even the **** have less attitude) 3) they have lives and **** to do
