What do you think about the adoption system that Mally has taken over, which lets members "adopt" a new traveler and help him/her get use to the site? I think it has great potential if we "clean" it up more. It helps the new and shy members become a lot more open about posting and eventually find their clique!
Also, In my opinion, I think we have too many repetitive "rules" topics for the newbies. When I first joined I was a bit intimidated because not only did I see the HUGE ZanDex, but also about 2-3 other topics in one forum, which talks about the rules. I felt like if you accidentally broke one of the rules then the "Gods will rain down upon you with their wrath"
This is just an idea, but maybe we can move the ZanDex to the Edingtol Gates, or create one topic for the rules, but really enforce new travelers to browse the ZanDex. _________________

Yes, Ivy, there's just far too much "clutter" and confusion at the Gates - that's the reason this project exists.
The Zandex is being phased out, and the Rules & FAQs will be available in the HELP section (only), in the main navigation. All these other "forum rules" threads will be removed (because they *are* redundant and overwhelming) just as soon as I find a chance to review them and then to remove them.
So, what else could new players use to help them get the information they need and be "welcomed" appropriately? _________________

Some of the big questions have been about the items that they encounter while browsing around the forums. The new travelers are not sure what is a Donation Item, Event Item, Common, Smuggler etc. For a new member, that can be overwhelming in itself trying to determine what a DI looks like from an EI.
In the gates, there should be links to the Price Guide, Smuggler shops, gem(donation) shop, commons, and a short description about each. That way newbies know what items will be available to them quicker like the commons and the smugglers, and what items they may have to work a bit harder on like past donation and event items. _________________

These are very good suggestions ... exactly what is needed! So... put together a new, relevant "new player guide" that addresses these kinds of things?
These are also things that should be considered for the Help/FAQs project, BTW.
What else do the new citizens seem to be looking for / confused about / uncomfortable with... and how can we help them? _________________

New citizens come with artistic skills as well as skills in finding great ways to earn the sites unique currency.
A section should explain ways to make a steady income like links to the Creative Exchange, links to mining and fishing, or links to some of the most active forums we have so not only are they making gold, but also getting active instead of lurking ((or hiding behind their shops)). _________________

"Make it so, Minion o' mine"
(seriously - flesh it out and see where it leads; I'm curious! Also, please evaluate the existing threads to see if they're actually helping ... or just confusing. This forum, in particular, needs to have information that is extremely easy and clear for new players to follow.) _________________

RODGER Master o' mine
I'll have to channel my inner newb for this one, and it's either not going to be easy or pretty...with a slight chance of temporary brain damage or identity crisis. Don't worry it shouldn't affect any type of "behind the scenes" plans ((i hope)). _________________

Ok I have channeled my inner newb by helping out a friend who is new to this site.
I have come up with things that are very helpful I think.
The first few things a newbie should know after the rules are what the currency is and how to obtain it.
Along with how to navigate the site in a simplfied way of clicking on community versus the drop down menu. _________________

How are plans for this project coming along? I'm a little interested in assisting in this project but I don't know what plans are currently under way.
I have a sort of idea?
Could we I put up a poll/thread in Edingtol's Gates asking newcommers a few questions, for instance: when joining a new site, what information do you immediatly want to know?
What do you find most frustrating about joining a new site?
What is the easiest about joining a new site?
What would you like to see?
Something along those lines; I'm not sure if this has already been discussed or brought up.

I don't think there's really anything underway with this right now, Riley. If you have some ideas or want to use anything that has been posted here already, I would encourage you to do so, if that's your interest. I'd really love to see this project get off the ground, and yes, perhaps starting a thread at the Gates that encourages new players to post and which also asks very specific questions would be a place to start.
Perhaps we should consider tying in the idea of answering a "survey" of these types of questions to a charity as a requirement? *shrug* I haven't been able to think about all the wonderful ideas roaming around the Realm lately ("only so much time in a day"... but that's why these threads are here!!) but it does occur to me that there are a lot of great ideas, and that some of them could be integrated and many more implemented...
Thanks for your interest with this project! _________________

I like that idea with the charity threads - though, it kind of seems like the charities are dead or dying....
This weekend I will see about putting up that poll/survey thread in Edintol's Gates.
No problem I like helping where I can -nodnod- Xp

If no one else is tackling this at the moment, perhaps I could help out? I have a quick newbie guide written up already in my charity's first post.
I think the idea of having Riley's questions (or at least a few of them) as a requirement for getting items would be great! I'd also like to set a thread up in the Zantarni Discussion forum to see if any non-newbies have any input that they can remember (maybe they've joined new sites recently).
*runs off to set up a Zantarni Discussion thread* _________________
