Oh, my group work member. Two are Chinese, but the female seems to have a better grasp on what is going on than the male. I am so confused. Sigh

True, it's frustrating, but we'll cross the barrier of me and the other local having to re-write his damn part to include what we've discussed SEVERAL times already. thunk

Awww. That doesn't sound like an actual solution though. Plus it's more work for everyone else, and he's not really learning. Are you sure there's no way to make him understand?

I plan on having my say in the peer reviews, but we are having a group meeting in...an hour or so, so I plan on talking to him then and trying to get him to understand again, what we are aiming for.

Language barriers suck. My last shift, I swear people were putting the non-English speakers on my wall. I had Spanish, Mandarin, and Swahili. The Spanish I learned in high school is slowly coming back, so that's good, at least. But the others, ugh.

It's frustrating for everyone involved. All anyone wants is to be able to communicate, and to be understood. The person not understanding feels bad for not understanding, and the person trying to get their point across feels like they're not doing a good job of explaining. Sigh

Thankfully, we have a translator service over the phone we can use. It just takes time to set up each time you need to use it, and it can be a pain. But, at least it's there, so I'm not complaining about it.

I used it at least once a week it seems. We also just got a portable video screen, which we can use for people who use sign language. Coincidentally, a few days after we got them, I had a patient who signed. Good timing!

Yeah it was. I never thought about it before, but all of those tools are really needed in your profession. It would be really hard to help or diagnose someone if you can't speak to them.

Yep. Though, I am amazed at how much we can communicate, and how much we learn to communicate, when there is no means to translate readily available. My Spanish speaking lady and I were able to communicate enough for the little things, but I still needed the translator for the big things.

That's good that you were able to get by for the most part.

Are you still enjoying day shift?
