Thanks Blaze! I was near the end of the second book sometime last year and for some reason I just stopped reading. A couple weeks ago I was thinking about it and just picked it up again. Now I'm in the middle of the third. :3 I watched a couple seasons of it, but am determined to watch no more until I read the other 3 books. Razz

I usually stick to 1-2 at a time. Laughing

For the most part I try not to read more then one book at a time. If I do it is because I didn't finish before I had to start a new school book. I'm also bad with consistency so if I don't read a book in a few days time I may not finish at all....or it will take me months. There is no in between.

Blaze, I had been taking a break from The Magician's Nephew, mostly because it was my turn for the next book in the series from Patricia Briggs I am reading. But I finished both books recently.

I also read multiple books at once, though usually 2 or 3 at a time. Any more and there is a risk that one gets completely forgotten XD

Yes, often one (or two) of my current books gets lost on the bottom of the stack for a while too. Sometimes I don't get back to it immediately, and sometimes, one might take months to read, while I'll read 10 others in the same time-frame, but I usually do eventually finish books I start to read...

"Eventually being the key word, lol

Just started The Maze Runner. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I'll give it a few more chapters; it's too soon to tell.

Yeah, I felt that way too about that one Riley. I managed to get through that book, started the second book in the series and just couldn't get past the halfway point with it. Good luck, though - I'm curious what you think of the book (or series) if you get through it.

I've just picked up The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson. The youngest Prince is making me read it XD

I just finished chapter 6 last night. I don't know, I'm still not feeling it. I can't tell if it's the writing style or the pace, but I'm thinking I might move on to another book for the time being.

I appear to be on an accidental Vietnam kick. I had picked up a children's book not knowing what it was about and it was set in that time period. Then I remembered that I was half way through a collection of short stories by Stephen King. Picked it up and remembered it is about the failure of the Vietnam generation.

Maybe this is a sign that I should finally study up on the war since I know nothing about it.

It's finally my turn for the book I've been waiting for, but I'm moving through it slowly. I imagine I'll reach that 'can't put it down' moment soon. Then I will finish it in a couple of hours XD

Something Wicked This Way Comes is moving more slowly than I originally thought it would. I suspect it's partly because of the rich (and relevant) descriptions of scenes, characters and activity used constantly within the book. It's like I'm afraid to miss a single word, because doing so might change the meaning -or at least the flavor- of the next set of actions! It's pretty amazing, actually, and it's nice to once more read an author who could actually really write!

H'OK!! I've read a few books since my last post! My list has been updated, but to make things easier:

8. Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

A nice little piece of Steampunk adventure. I did find the writing a bit fad, but the concept was interesting and I liked the characters enough that I was willing to keep reading it. Still, it took me a long time to get through it. The basic storyline is about a young man who longs to know about his father, who is presumed dead after causing the destruction of downtown Seattle with his epic drilling machine. He returns to the destroyed city to find out the truth and....

You'll just have to read it. Razz

9. Undeniable by Bill Nye (Yes, the Science Guy. XD)

This book was written in reaction to his debate with Ken Ham (You can see the video here. Fast forward to 12 minutes to see the actual debate starting.) And while he's not bashing Ken Ham, he does periodically make references back to the debate. So this is not so much a book about science, as it is a book reinforcing the importance of science in our world today.

My personal reaction: I LOVED it! I think the thing I liked the most about it was that it was clearly written by his hand - The expressions, the enthusiasm, I couldn't help but hear his voice as I read through it. And his passion was, as always, catching. ^__^

His explanations of all scientific matters were done at the layman's level without insulting our intelligence by "dumbing it down", which made the read most enjoyable. And, as is often the case with anything Bill Nye explains, I learned a couple of new things, which I always appreciate!

10. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book, but it turns out it is exceptionally well written. It's categorized as a "teen novel", but I found the language in this book to be vibrantly descriptive, the characters engaging and the storyline flowed easily and kept you wanting to see what would happen next.

The story starts off with unremarkable Jacob, who's incredible grandfather is killed, presumably by some wild animal. But Jacob swears he saw the monster from a story his grandfather had long ago told him, about his life at an orphanage, housing remarkable children. Obviously Jacob is traumatized, right?

The most surprising thing (I found) was how he chose to end his book. "Cliffhanger" indeed!!

11. Hollow City (Book 2 to the above) by Ransom Riggs

This picks up right where the previous book left off. I've nothing much more to add without giving the story away - It's very much a beautifully written sequel. And I am desperate to read his 3rd book, which won't be out until August or October. *twitch*

12. Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman

Ok, this is categorized as a book for 6-8 year olds. I read this so I would have a recommendation to offer parents who were looking for books other than Geronimo Stilton or Captain Underpants. (Yes. The latter is a real series. Razz ). Little did I know I would fall in love with it! (So much so I bought it!) It's a brilliantly crafted story about a father who goes to get some milk for his children's cereal (and his tea), and returns home with a fantastical story about why he was gone so long. I don't care how old you are - Go read this book!! XD

13. Invasion of the Tearling (Book 2) by Deckle Edge

Yes, I read the books out of order. We're promoting the above at work, so I read it, and only after I started it, realised I'd forgotten it was the second of the series. Honestly though, the story stands well enough on it's own that I didn't feel hopelessly lost reading it.

I really enjoyed the book, but some elements were baffling to me, most specifically the character's periodic, odd obsession with her appearance, which I felt was irrelevant to the storyline. I'm hoping the first book, The Queen of the Tearling, which I am currently reading, will explain why this is such a factor to our heroine.

Other than that little hiccup, the book is a fun read I would recommend it to people who enjoy a bit of sci-fi/ fantasy. ^__^

Fortunately, the milk! <-- I love this book. Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite authors. If you enjoyed this, may I suggest The Sleeper and the Spindle? It's a new take on Snowhite and the Sleeping beauty fairy-tales. I really enjoyed it. The Interworld series is also noteworthy, I'm still waiting to get the third book from the series, someone in the library has been keeping it foreverrrrrr!

Speaking of the library, I have joined the local library within days of arriving, so now I'm binge-reading. <-- Does this even exist? XD

I've decided that I needed to read some local (New Zealand) authors, so I started of with Witi Ihimaera (The Whale Rider) and Eleanor Cutton (The Luminaries) and both of these authors left me craving for more, so I'll definitely keep reading stuff from these two.

I've also managed to find Pratchett/Baxter's The Long Utopia, so I'm done with the series and I'm sad that it's over. I've really enjoyed The Long Earth series.

I've also discovered Philippa Gregory and her historical fiction written about the Tudor dynasty. I'm currently finishing the sixth book from The Tudor Court series. I will have been read these six books in less than a month, that's how good they are. If you're in love with historical fiction as much as I am (with a side of romance), I wholeheartedly recommend this author.

So these are the books that I have read since I moved to NZ. :3

Just added a bunch of books to my list... I've been busy! XD Of course, probably half of them are research/refreshers for the kids' schooling...

I sort of stopped reading in November during NaNoWriMo; I was more focused on the 50k words in 30 days goal XD
But overall, not too bad. I'll definitely make another goal for the next year ^^
