I never set myself a reading goal per year, I just read as much as I can, giving the limited time I am able to spend on reading. What I have read thus far, not exactly since the beginning of the year, but close, is as follows:

Terry Pratchett&Stephen Baxter - The Long Earth series (The Long Earth, The Long War, The Long Mars) and there is the last one, The Long Utopia coming out in June that's on my To read list.

Isabel Allende - The Island beneath the sea, Ripper - I enjoyed both of them, I would recommend the Ripper to those who enjoy crime stories.

Kate Quinn - Lady of the Eternal City - this is the last book in her The Mistress of Rome series, if you have not read the first three, I recommend you do, it's a lovely historical fiction.

Jonathan Stroud - The Bartimaeus series - just finished the first book, looking forward to the rest. It's a nice little breather for those who enjoy magical worlds and books aimed at a younger audience.

Clive Barker - Abarat - just started on the second book, I've read the first one ages ago and never got round to reading the rest. It's dark, real Clive Barker style but very entertaining.

I guess that's it so far. I'll keep you updated on the rest. I read some other books, odds and ends, but not interesting enough for me to mention them. Most of them are soppy, romance novels, recommended by my best friend who is currently reading The Hunger Games trilogy (on loan to her from me XD) and is being thoroughly reformed about her reading habits. Terry Pratchett is next on her list. XD

I think I'm at that point too, Lillie. I just don't ever want to stop reading. If that means I only get through 5 books for the year, I think I am okay with that :3 I'll add you to the first page.

I was making progress with The Chronicle's of Narnia books, but it's slowed down a lot :/

**Makes a whole bunch of notes to check from some of the listed books as work**

So, Sanctum. Not bad, but I was dissatisfied with the way the story resolved itself. And it's a pity, too, because the concept was very promising and, in the hands of a better writer, could have been a truly chilling story.

Nevertheless, as this is a book meant for teens, I would say it would probably satisfy that demographic as a horror/ thriller. Yes

My next books are "Agatha H and the Airship City" by Phil and Kaja Foglio and "The Brain's Way of Healing: Remarkable Discoveries and Recoveries from the Frontiers of Neuroplasticity" by Norman Doidge

The first was recommended to me by my nephew, who had recently discovered that I had an affinity for all things Steampunk. And as he is a very eloquent and well read young man, I'm really looking forward to reading it! ^___^

The latter is partially my own curiosity about the some of our most recent medical discovery breakthroughs, and partially because there seems to be a lot of buzz about this book. It's made me curious to see what everyone's going on about.

Thanks Riley. :3

Yeah, a lot of people ask me how I manage to read as much as I do, but reading is like breathing for me. I don't feel satisfied unless I read at least a chapter or two every day, from a book, I don't count magazines and newspapers. XD

A good thing is that I have an ebook reader on my smartphone, so I am able to read while using public transport, going from class to class. I don't have to haul books with me. XD

Although I've just received a late birthday present from one of my best friends, it's a tote bag with a lovely graphic that reads: I cannot live without books. Describes me perfectly. My friend knows me to the core. :3

*adds a few titles to her To read list*

I make a point to read at least 5 books. Any more than that and it is a bonus. I am taking both the Jane Austen collections with me so I can read them while I am gone. I am basically forcing myself to have no other choice but to read them. Laughing

I'd take the massive Charles D!ckens book with me, but it would be really heavy and too bulky to read on the train.

I'm hoping to be able to read as I lay dying by the end of the week. So far I have far too many half finished books thanks to school.

Well, that's 4 books in about as many days. It's really nice to read -just to read!- again! And it's nice to knock out a couple things from the list that has been accumulating and overdue for reading... like The Hunger Games series.

I've just picked up Maze Runner to read. Partly because I found it in the pile of books that used to be on the bookshelf and are now all over our table (moving bookcases *stinks*), the kids read the series and keep trying to tell me about it, and the first movie was fairly interesting. Divergent, I have on the Kindle... that's on the "to read" list right now too.

Teenage dystopian fantasies, anyone? XD

I have sadly really slowed down a lot on my reading, there was a time when i could read three to four books in a week. No i am lucky if i can get to finish at least one. i might be reading more stuff online i think than actual books. i need to get back to reading for more inspiration.

Blaze, I've read both the Maze runner and the Divergent series. XD

They're good. I also read Cassandra Clare's City of Bones series. I was not too thrilled, but not disappointed either. It was fun to read.

I'm a sucker for teenage lit, mostly because I get to recommend some of the books to my students. I've got some Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett fans in the making. XD

A lot of what you guys are mentioning are on my list to read but since I only pick up books at thrift stores I'm stuck with whatever I can find.

Which turns out to be a lot. -stares at the 14 books I just brought home-

Finished another book. I needed a little break from the one I've been working on. I'm not sure if I'll get back to it now, or if I'll find another book. Hmm, I think I need to pick my pace up a bit if I want to actually make my reading goal....

I'm giving up on The Scorch Trials. Although it's interesting on some levels and fairly well written, I'm finding it redundant and a bit tedious. I just want the story to end at this point... I'm tired of the characters being chased and facing what is essentially the same situation time and time and time again... and it's a bit depressing. I can't envision slogging through the rest of this book only to be faced with reading yet another one of the same ilk. Blergh.

... but I've found another Brandon Sanderson book to read (The Emperor's Soul) and Don Quixote is proving an entertaining and enlightening read so far...

That's quite a list you're starting there, Celestrya! I started reading that series (I don't watch the show), but gave it up because I just didn't have the time or attention to keep up with all the details of the storyline. I was enjoying it otherwise, and will probably go back to it at some point. Have fun!

Riley, I do that too sometimes... take a break from a book (or series) mid-stream. What book are you taking a break from?

So is it just me or do you guys also read 4+ books at once?

For me, it seems to depend on the book itself -the tone of the book, the type or use of book as well as the format of the book (Kindle or physical). For example, I tend not to take the Kindle to the beach/pool, or I prefer a physical book to study or learn from, but I also don't tend to take these books to the beach... Or I'll be reading a book that one of the kids is reading at the same time I'm reading my own books, and before I know it, there are 6 or so books stacked up in various states of being read...

...just curious...
...but I suspect most of you here do read several books at once...
